Eastern Kufic Script on Leather
The 30th part of Holy Quran with Eastern Kufic script
As a brief note on the origin of the Kufic style, we can say it was first and foremost used to write Quranic texts.
A major part of Islamic calligraphy, which is of great importance to the history of writing, comprises Kufic writings. The artists of every land have created new features of this style according to their individual artistic nature and the culture and traditions of the particular region.
The Eastern Kufic script, following the Hijazi and Abbasid Kufic styles, had a distinct and prevalent writing style for Quranic calligraphy in the 5th and 6th centuries AH. Slim and tall Alifs and Lams, accompanied by decorative/illustrative forms, were characteristic of this unique method. Scholars have creatively and intelligently presented this script in a more beautiful and delicate manner, making it a unique style with special charm and features for the desired Quranic aesthetics.
This large Quran, written in the Eastern Kufic script, is meticulously crafted by the renowned international master, Syed Muhammad Vahid Jazairi. It is inscribed on natural leather using a special Schmincke compound and adorned with 24-carat German gold gilding and decoration. This precious Quran, containing the 30th Juz’, has dimensions of 50x80cm, spread across 88 pages. It earned the prestigious Grand Prize at the 2022 Sharjah Biennial.
